Every service follows the same underlying method.
Whatever the service type, the same principles apply at Mainspring Row: written scope before work starts, photography at each key stage, no additional charges without prior agreement, and a written report that leaves with the watch. The calibre and its condition determine which service applies; the approach to communication and documentation does not change.
Owners who are new to bench servicing are encouraged to start with a Condition Survey. It carries the lightest commitment and provides the clearest picture of what the movement actually needs.
Intake and written scope
Case condition is noted, movement is examined under magnification, and the service scope is written up for the owner's agreement before anything proceeds.
Bench work with photography
Service work is carried out with photographs taken at opening and key disassembly stages. If additional findings arise, work pauses until the owner agrees.
Regulation and on-test period
Movement is regulated in six positions on the timing machine and runs on test for one week before collection is arranged.
Collection with written report
Watch is collected with a written report covering all work done, parts replaced, timing machine readings and any notes relevant to the owner.
Service 01
Condition Survey & Water Resistance Check
A short, low-commitment appointment for owners who are not yet sure what their watch needs. The watchmaker opens the case, examines the movement under magnification, measures the current rate on a timing machine, checks the gaskets and pressure-tests the case to its stated rating, and writes up what was found. Nothing is dismantled and no work proceeds without a separate agreement. Suitable before a purchase, after a knock, or simply as a check every couple of years.

Standard Mechanical Service
The workshop's core bench service for three-hand mechanical watches. The movement is fully disassembled, cleaned in a multi-stage bath, worn pivots and jewels are inspected, the mainspring is renewed, lubrication is applied to specification, and the reassembled calibre is regulated in six positions and rested on test for a week before it returns to the owner. The case and bracelet are hand-cleaned, gaskets renewed, and resistance re-tested where the case allows.

Service 03
Complication Rebuild Project
A longer project for calendars, moon phases, alarm calibres and other multi-module watches, where the added works need individual attention and often hand-made or hand-adjusted parts. The route typically covers module strip-down, correction of a jumping or drifting date change, moon phase re-setting, replacement or refinishing of missing hands and markers, and full regulation once the whole assembly is back together. The owner receives a written proposal with photographs first, and each stage requires written agreement before it begins.
